![]() Sometimes auto levels works very well - I'll just pull it back a bit so it won't get rid of highlight and shadow detail. I'll open the saved tif file on Photoshop, crop and straighten the image and get rid of that film base tint. The picture will look green and blue, because it's only inverted and will have the film base color almost intact. On the color tab I usually have set none. Scan with a decent resolution, like 2400dpi, to get most out of your film (with your scanner). If you're scanning entire films, you shouldn't bother with multiple passes. My workflow includes mostly Photoshop and Lightroom. I've used Vuescan for years with several scanners and for the most recent year or two, I've only used Vuescan to get nearly raw scanner data (only inverted, saved as tif). The point is that going through extra trouble to get better scans is probably not worth it, because by getting a better scanner, you'd get much better scans with less work. When scanning with a flatbed, you should keep in mind that a cheap dedicated film scanner will yield 5-10 times better resolution out of your film than your flatbed. Even the ones that are sold today aren't very good and I'd imagine yours is even worse. Wow, the Epson 3200 is a 10 years old flatbed.
